On a closer look, smart trackers can be found everywhere. People are putting it inside their luggage while traveling, on their pets and backpacks. Samsung has unveiled a new generation of its Galaxy SmartTag 2, which has been completely redesigned and uses Bluetooth Low Energy and ultra-wideband tech to help you find lost objects or trigger smart home routines. Needless to say, it features longer battery life and is more durable against the elements.

The SmartTag 2 competes with the likes of Tile trackers and Apple AirTags. Announced on the same day as Samsung’s Developer Conference, it can be used with Samsung Galaxy phones.

The device comes with a new Lost Mode, which allows users to input their contact information via a message. Anyone who discovers an item with a Galaxy SmartTag2 attached can use their smartphone to scan the tag and see the owners’ message and contact information. It is particularly helpful when attached to a pet’s collar. Lost Mode works with any mobile device with NFC reader and web browser.

The Compass View is more accessible, improving user experience by providing arrows to show the direction and distance of the Galaxy SmartTag2 in relation to the user. This mode is available on any UWB-supported Galaxy smartphone, such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Also, the SmartThings Find app has also been upgraded, with newly-registered Galaxy SmartTags that now install a shortcut to the app on the user’s smartphone, allowing users to launch SmartThings Find more quickly. Being rated IP67, it can take on wet, dusty or icy conditions. It works seamlessly with SmartThings Station, which is integrated with SmartThings Find — serving as an always-at-home device scanner — helping users keep track of valuables that have a SmartTag attached.

Being smaller than before, the tracker can fit into almost any spot in your bag or dangle from your key chain. It now has a rated battery life of up to 700 days, which surpasses the previous model at 165 days. But the best part of the deal is that SmartTag 2 is powered by a CR2032 battery that you can replace.

When switching Galaxy smartphones, SmartTag 2 automatically re-syncs when you’re using your Samsung account.
