Samsung Galaxy S22 series — the best overall Android phone of the year, includes servicing — has got better because of the updated version of Expert RAW app and the arrival of a new app called Camera Assistant, which allows manual control over some automatic camera features. The new Camera Assistant app is currently available only on the Galaxy S22 series running One UI 5 or later versions.

Every photographer has a shooting style and the new app lets the user choose automated features for a fully customised shooting experience. You can work around with auto lens switching, auto HDR and faster shutter, which allows up to seven photos to be taken per second. There are more options when it comes aspects like selecting the number of pictures you want to take after the timer goes off — 1, 3, 5 or 7 photos.

The Auto Lens Switching feature automatically switches camera lenses in dark environments or as you move closer to the object you are shooting. For example, if you want to keep using the telephoto lens instead of the wide lens to take a picture of the object closer to you, you can simply turn it off in the menu.

There is also the ability to take videos by holding down the shutter button in photo mode, and tweak the number of pictures taken after the timer runs out. Another helpful option is a “clean” camera app preview (without buttons or other UI elements) when connected to an external display.

There are many who use the Expert RAW app which allows one to capture shots that are rich in details. Now there is a powerful Astrophoto feature that lets star gazers and outdoor enthusiasts take clear and beautiful photos of constellations and dark sky activity. All you need to do is turn on the Sky guide to pinpoint the location of constellations. The camera uses advanced AI segmentation technology and multi-frame processing based on the movements of a celestial body to snap photos over a set time period. There is also a Multiple exposures feature to shoot several images at once and then use Overlay modes to combine them into one standout shot.
