Global NCAP ratings have suddenly become something that every car company is vying for. This is the safety rating in number of stars that a car model gets for its cheapest version in the market. Till even a few years back, car companies were not too worried about producing cars that were safer for both passengers and pedestrians should there be an accident. The base variants of most vehicles did not even have airbags as an option let alone as standard fitment. Then there were those that gave one for the driver but none for the front passenger.
