In India, iPhone users have been waiting for 5G access. No longer. Apple has enabled 5G cellular support for the new iPhone 14 series as well as iPhone 13, iPhone SE and iPhone 12 lineups.

To use a 5G connection with Reliance Jio and Airtel on an iPhone 12 model or later, customers will need to update to iOS 16.2. Once updated, when you’re in an area with 5G coverage for your carrier and your 5G cellular plan has been activated, you’ll see a 5G icon in the status bar of your iPhone.

Last month, the company enabled 5G in the iOS 16 Beta software programme for select iPhone users in the country. Airtel and Jio customers who participated in the iOS 16 Beta software programme were able to try out 5G.

The default settings for 5G on iPhone are optimised for battery life and data usage based on your data plan. You can customise these options for when to use 5G and how much data to use in some apps, mentions the company’s support pages.

You can choose how the iPhone uses the 5G network. 5G Auto enables smart data mode. When 5G speeds don’t provide a better experience, your iPhone automatically switches to LTE, saving battery life. Then there is ‘5G On’or always uses 5G network when it’s available. And there is ‘LTE’, which uses only LTE network, even when 5G is available.

With ‘Allow More Data on 5G’ mode, you can get better performance from certain apps, like higher-quality FaceTime, high-definition content on Apple TV, Apple Music songs and videos, iOS updates over cellular, and automatic iCloud backups.

Apple has carried out extensive testing with carrier partners, ensuring top-of-the-line experience for iPhone users.

Besides 5G, update your phone to iOS 16.2 and get access to Apple Music Sing karaoke feature. The Apple Music feature will turn tens of millions of its top songs into karaoke tracks. To enable the feature, a simple tap is all that is required. There is a slider on the side to lower the vocals of the original song while you sing along to real-time lyrics.
