Health and fitness remain at the core of the Apple experience, something the company proves again by adding a number of features that will soon be available. The Apple Watch has got some nifty software upgrades while the Health app on your phone is going to be more powerful.

Medications app

There is a new Medications experience on Apple Watch and iPhone. The idea is to help users manage and track their medications, vitamins, and supplements, allowing them to create a medications list, set up schedules and reminders, and view information on their medications in the Health app. The Medications app on Apple Watch will make it easy for users to discreetly track medications anytime, anywhere. You can manually type in your medications or just scan the label of the bottle with your phone’s camera. You can create custom schedules for each medication.

Sleep Stages

The updated Sleep app will include a sleep stage function, which will detect the REM, core and deep sleep stages and track those over time. All the metrics will be available alongside other data in the Health app on your iPhone.

AFib History

The Apple Watch can already detect atrial fibrillation with the ECG app. For those with chronic atrial fibrillation, the Apple Watch will soon help you keep track of the condition via AFib History, a new feature that tracks the number of times each day that the heart is in AFib and offers insights about how often it happens and when does it occurs the most.

Swimming enhancements

Kickboard detection has been added as a new stroke type for Pool Swim workouts, using sensor fusion on Apple Watch to automatically detect when users are swimming with a kickboard and classify the stroke type in the workout summary along with distance swam.
