The computer mouse will not go out of fashion as the pointing device continues to innovate with colours and shapes. Recently, I came across one from Asus, called the Marshmallow Mouse Philip Colbert Edition.

As far as the device goes, it’s sensibly styled and excellent in terms of functionality. What makes the mouse special is the touch of the artist Philip Colbert’s vision. Born in Scotland and living and working in London, Colbert is referred to as the ‘godson of Andy Warhol’. His global following has a lot to do with his cartoon lobster persona and his masterful hyper-pop history paintings.

His vivid red lobster is striking and immediately catches the eye. “I loved going to the seaside as a kid, and I always thought that the lobsters there were communicating with me. I was born in Scotland, which has a really strong storytelling culture. It’s a country full of fairy tales,” he has said in an interview.

Asus plays on the lobster motive on the 56g mouse. The MD100 Philip Colbert Edition comes with a 10-million-click lifespan and is engineered to last three times longer than switches typically used in standard office mice. What I liked about the device is the low-noise switches that keep mouse clicks below 20 dB. So none of that annoying click-click-click when working in a quiet room.

It comes with adjustable sensitivity levels that allow users to switch between 800, 1000 and 1600 dpi. Also, there is dual-mode wireless connectivity that supports both RF 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth 5.0, providing high data throughput to ensure accurate, lag-free input.

What about battery life? It will get the most out of a standard AA battery, enabling around a year of use.
