Ahead of the 10-year anniversary of the Apple Watch, Apple is adding a number of important health features like pregnancy tracking and a fitness training algorithm via watchOS 11.

Vitals app

It will let you look at metrics like heart rate, respiratory rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen on a simple dashboard. The app will also inform if the numbers go out of a safe range, using real-world data derived from Apple’s Heart and Movement study.

WatchOS 11, iOS 18, and iPadOS 18 offer support for pregnant users to reflect changes in their physical and mental health during this important time. When users log a pregnancy in the Health app on iPhone or iPad, the Cycle Tracking app on Apple Watch will show their gestational age and allow them to log symptoms for things frequently experienced during pregnancy. They will also be prompted to review things like their high heart rate notification threshold, since heart rate tends to increase during pregnancy.

Training Load

It’s an in-depth look at measuring how your workout intensity is affecting your body over time. Training load helps users understand the strain on their body from workouts over the last seven days compared to the last 28 days. These insights can help users make informed decisions about their training each day, particularly when preparing for an event — whether it is their first 5K, a bike race, or a marathon.

Give the Rings a rest

Apple Watch’s activity rings are one of the most popular fitness features on the watch. Failing to close those rings each day can make some people nervous. New in watchOS 11, you can pause your activity tracking to take a rest day, week, month, without affecting your fitness streaks.

Check In

If you play or practice an outdoor sport, your family may get nervous when you go out alone. Ease their worries with Check In that not only tells your loved ones when you arrive at a location, but also sends you safety prompts if you don’t arrive.
