Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) is finally here to become an addition in the living room, kitchen or in the bedroom. Since its launch in international markets last year, it has won critics over, especially with the display. But there is a lot more to the Rs 7,999 device.

It comes with a speaker that is based on the same audio technology as Nest Audio, which means the sound is booming enough to fill any room with music from your favourite streaming audio services, like YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music, Gaana and JioSavvn.

In case you want to watch movies, it can play the same with a subscription from providers like Netflix, and YouTube Premium. With YouTube, ask Google to find how-to videos on just about anything, including recipes with step-by-step instructions on screen. What’s more, the addition of a third mic now lets it hear you ever better, resulting in a more responsive Google Assistant.

The product has been designed keeping privacy in mind, and like the original Nest Hub it does not include a camera, so you can feel comfortable putting it in any room in your home. You can turn off the microphone by simply sliding the hardware switch on the back of the device. By default, the device doesn’t retain any of your audio recordings, and you can delete all your recent activity by simply saying things like “Ok Google, delete everything I said last week.” With a simple voice command, you can also turn on Guest Mode, so that your Assistant activity won’t be saved to your Google account and personal results won’t be shown.

One helpful feature is multi-room control, which makes it possible to dynamically group multiple cast-enabled Nest devices – such as speakers, Smart Displays, Chromecasts – throughout your home directly on your Nest Hub.

While working in the kitchen there are Quick Gestures to control the device. Play or pause a song or video, snooze an alarm and stop a timer. Quick Gestures use Motion Sense to detect when your hand moves — without a camera.
