Google Lens, the computer vision-powered app, is getting new features. It can now search for skin conditions with just a photo. The idea is to guide people in the right direction, so they seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Uploading a picture or photo using Lens will begin a search for visual matches. It can work on an “odd mole or rash” and on other parts of your body, like if you want to know about the bump on your lip, line on a nail, or hair loss from your scalp.

“Just take a picture or upload a photo through Lens, and you’ll find visual matches to inform your search. This feature also works if you’re not sure how to describe something else on your body, like a bump on your lip, a line on your nails or hair loss on your head,” said Lou Wang, senior director, product management, Google Search.

Google warns that the results are “informational only and not a diagnosis” and says users should “consult your medical authority for advice”

Besides skin conditions, Lens can identify major landmarks, learn about the things you see around you, translate street signs and much more. “Lens helps you search what you see and learn all about it — like whether that beautiful plant can grow indoors,” said Wang.
