Genshin Impact is a beautiful looking open world game launching on multiple platforms simultaneously. Due to the sheer difficulty of launching on multiple platforms, not many games attempt it but Genshin Impact not only manages it technically but also delivers a polished and unique experience.

The story takes place in the fictional world of Tevyat. You don’t remember how you arrived there but you wake up in foreign land separated from your sister. At its core, this is a hack and slash game. You can control multiple characters and each one has their own set of abilities. The storyline takes you on an adventure in this world populated by monsters, villains and also friends. Most of the tasks involve you searching for a new place and defeating foes on the way. Every character has a unique power that can be used in interesting ways. As you progress in the game, you unlock new characters with new abilities. You can equip your character with magical artefacts and powerful weapons while levelling them up in order to become stronger.

An important aspect of this game are the seven elements that make up the world. These seven elements are woven seamlessly into the story, gameplay and even the design of characters and monsters. These elements are linked to the seven gods who created this world. These elements interact in interesting ways with each other. For example, water and electricity interact to shock all enemies in the vicinity. If your character is of the fire element, you can easily defeat enemies of the water element. However, the vice versa is also true. The world itself interacts in wonderful ways with these elements. If there is a patch of water somewhere, you can go in with your character of the ice element and freeze those who are in the water. You can also light a patch of grasslands on fire and anyone who comes near it gets burnt. This focus on elements makes for a variety of interesting gameplay.

The world itself is vast and expansive. Every area has a unique feel to it. There are cities, grasslands, lakes, caves and even mountains. The game gives you ample tools to travel this expanse. You can climb any surface while wings allow you to jump from any height. You can swim in the water or even speed dash and jump to cover the land area faster. The world also reacts to your actions in it through an engaging soundtrack that changes with the action that you are performing.

Verdict: Genshin Impact is a huge and beautiful game where the developers have left no stone unturned. Sometimes its vastness can be a shortcoming where you don’t know what to do next. However, if you give it time, the game will entertain you for hours to come. I’d rate it nine out of 10.
