The long-awaited move from Apple has finally happened. The Apple TV app is coming to many new Android TV devices and not just the Nvidia Shield. Initially only available on Apple devices, the service has, over the years, been expanded to Amazon’s Fire OS ecosystem and LG’s webOS. But that wasn't enough. In India, Android TV is an important platform, covering a number of brands.

The move comes at a time when the expiration date for free trials of Apple TV+ is arriving on July 1 for many subscribers. The rollout to Android TV OS devices has started. In India, many television manufacturers — Xiaomi, Realme, TCL and OnePlus, for example — use Android TV as the platform, which allows streaming as well as buying/renting of movies. Meanwhile, Apple TV+ rivals — Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+Hotstar — have been available on the Android TV platform for quite a long time. It’s now time to watch Ted Lasso.
