Known for offering some of the best dust busters in the world, Dyson’s latest device deals with dirt with a mechanical mop. Unlike the British company’s flagship vacuums, the new Dyson WashG1 floor washing machine doesn’t use a fine-tuned Hyperdymium motor; the mop relies on mechanical agitation to clean up wet spills, collect dirt and debris and gives your hard floors a good wash.

The mop has both clean- and dirty-water tanks that moisten two counter-rotating absorbent microfiber filament rollers that collect solid and wet messes. Usually, a vacuum cleaner requires two passes — one to pick up dry debris and the other to wet-scrub. The WashG1 lets you pick up both dry and wet debris in a single pass.

The WashG1’s head has two counter-rotating absorbent rollers that extend the full length of the roller head. When you switch on the machine, water from the clean water tank flows down to the roller heads at a low, medium or high rate (you decide on how you want to scrub) and as you roll it over the floor, extraction plates within the head siphon the dirty water into the tank, and a 500-micron mesh keeps solid debris from getting inside.

While cleaning, a nylon bristle brush combs through the wet fibres and extracts solid debris into a removable debris tray. Once done, remove the dirty water tank and the debris tray and dispose both without having to touch any dirt. There is also a self-cleaning mode that rinses both rollers after use, and parts of the WashG1 are dishwasher-safe.

With more hard floors around us, cleaning has so far remained a largely manual process, usually involving mops that leave smears and streaks. Typical mopping also leads to wiping diluted dirt around your floors after the first dunk. Dyson’s technology keeps the fresh and dirty water separate as you clean.

The manner in which the machine separates liquid and solid mess also reduces the amount of sludgy muck you’ll get from cleaning floors with water. The machine ensures that solids aren’t in the water for too long.

Dyson is yet to announce a release date for India and pricing.
