Apple’s on-device LLM

Apple is expected to make announcements around generative artificial intelligence features at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 10 and according to Bloomberg, the company is developing its own large language model that runs on-device to prioritise speed and privacy. If it doesn’t use the Cloud, privacy will be high on the agenda.

But one wonders if sacrifices need to be made because Cloud-based rivals use a different technology to “fill in the gaps” or it could be that Apple may fall back on licensing technology from Google and other AI service providers. There have been reports that Apple was in discussions with Google to integrate its Gemini AI engine into the iPhone as part of iOS 18.

Drake continues his AI journey

Following the Kendrick Lamar diss track Push Ups, Drake is pushing his sonic boundaries with Taylor Made Freestyle, which appears to feature AI vocals from Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg.

The rapper has once again put out a scathing rebuke toward Kendrick, and this time the song takes direct aim primarily at Kendrick. On the new AI-powered track, AI Shakur opens with a verse offering advice to Kendrick: “Kendrick we need ya, the West Coast savior/Engraving your name in some hip-hop history/If you deal with this viciously … Call him a b***h for me.”

As for Taylor Swift, Drake brings in that part easily: “But now we gotta wait a f**king week ’cause Taylor Swift is your new Top/ And if you ’bout to drop, she gotta approve/ This girl really ’bout to make you act like you not in a feud.”

A humanoid robot

Mentee Robotics, based in Israel, has offered a glimpse of Menteebot, the company’s take at the growing humanoid category. It has been designed to target household and warehouse applications with AI technologies, including transformer-based large language models (LLMs) popularised by OpenAI’s ChatGPT and others.
