The much-anticipated drone releases from DJI has happened — Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine. The first features a 4/3-sized, 20MP sensor behind a 24mm adjustable aperture prime lens, and the second is a 28x hybrid zoom camera, effectively combining the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom, but with upgraded hardware.

The Cine model ($4,999) is capable of filming Apple ProRes 422 HQ footage at 5.1K up to 50FPS, and it has a built-in, but not user-replaceable, 1TB SSD. The cheaper version ($2,199) doesn’t come with ProRes or a built-in SSD but shares the same dual-camera system powered by a 4/3 CMOS sensor. Both versions can film in 4K at up to 120fps and capturing 20MP photos.

The drones come with big improvements in battery life. Most drones previously have had around 30-minutes of flight time, the Mavic 3 offers up to 46-minutes in the air, which has been achieved through the development of motors and propellers with higher energy efficiency, a higher-capacity battery, and reduced the weight of the drone’s structure and components.

The successors to DJI’s Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom, which released in 2018, feature updated versions of DJI’s proprietary transmission technology, OcuSync 3+, which allows 15km of range (in ideal conditions) and 1080p at 60fps live feed transmission to your smartphone or controller.

There is also a new set of intelligent modes, including MasterShots (create high-quality content more easily and quickly), 100MP Panorama Mode (stitches and processes internally without the DJI Fly App or any post-production), and Trimmed Download (export a selected portion of a clip instead of the entire file).
