In January, Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S24 series of smartphones that put AI left, right and centre. It helped the company take a lead over its rivals and the march of the South Korean company continues, this time with Galaxy F55 5G.

“We are bringing in a lot of design-focussed innovations and Galaxy F55 5G has plenty to showcase on this front,” said Raju Pullan, senior vice-president, MX Division, Samsung India.

The latest device has a number of noteworthy features, for example a classy vegan leather design, which is a first in the F-Series portfolio. There’s more: Super AMOLED+ display, powerful Snapdragon 7 Gen1 processor, 45W super-fast charging, and four generations of Android upgrades and five years of security updates.

“It will help us to be ahead (of competition). There is a lot of excitement in the air as we approach the second half of the year,” said Pullan.

Samsung had a top-notch showing in the first quarter, which helped “strengthen our position”. Since the launch of the S24 series, there has been excitement around devices like Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 5G. In fact, many of the best 5G phones in the market are coming from Samsung.

“There will be a lot of 5G upgrades and we are seeing a lot of value growth. There are a few insights we have gathered, besides the demand for a unique design. The phone targets many 5G upgraders and those moving from 4G to 5G; there is an affordability aspect here, especially when you consider Samsung Finance+ schemes. Consumers can get excellent EMI offerings,” said Pullan.

One of the key offerings from Samsung in the last few years has been software update cycle. Users are receiving updates — security as well as OS — often and across Samsung’s many categories. “The four years of OS upgrade and four-five years of security upgrade are becoming key differentiators as consumers are moving towards premium designs. Consumers want the life of products to increase,” said Pullan.

Featuring a 6.7-inch full HD+ Super AMOLED+ display, Galaxy F55 5G offers stunning visuals. The large display comes with 1,000 nits of high brightness and Vision Booster technology ensures users effortlessly enjoy their favourite content even under bright sunlight. The 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling through social media feed a breeze.

“The new phone targets young consumers who are looking beyond just specs; there are a lot of design elements involved. The phone will strengthen our leadership position in the 5G space in India,” pointed out the Samsung veteran.

In the camera department, Galaxy F55 5G features a 50MP (OIS) ‘No Shake’ snapper to shoot high-resolution videos and photos, eliminating blurred images caused by hand tremors or accidental shakes. The camera setup also includes an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. Galaxy F55 5G comes with Nightography, allowing users to capture stunning low-light shots and videos. It also sports a 50MP high resolution front camera for detailed, sharper selfies.

Priced upwards of Rs 26,999 (8GB+128GB; discounts bring down the price further), the latest Samsung phone comes in two colours — Apricot Crush and Raisin Black. “We spoke to a lot of consumers across a cross-section and early adopters. Consumers are looking at certain differentiations. Our design philosophy will help with that,” said Pullan. A noteworthy design element are the gold-coloured rings around each snapper.

“The year started off well and we have seen strong growth in Q1. And phones such as this will help us grow even further. We are driving premiumization in the country (smartphone offerings),” said Pullan.

Samsung has a number of devices coming up. In fact, many are eagerly awaiting the launch of the successors to Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5, both premium devices.
