Dell’s XPS laptop lineup continues to be the popular choice for millions of users around the world because of the pricing and its ultra-thin build that doesn’t compromise on power. The 2024 lineup has all that it takes to be a success. The company’s new trio of slim laptops replace its traditional XPS lineup with the design language it debuted in the Dell XPS 13 Plus. So now you have the XPS 13 and it’s joined by XPS 14 and XPS 16. Gone are the XPS 15 and 17.

Looking at the line-up, there are plenty of laptop makers with 14-inch and 16-inch devices. Apple launched a MacBook Pro in both sizes back in 2021. Dell’s XPS laptops are a competitor to Apple’s MacBook Pro.

The XPS 14 comes in at 3.7 to 3.8 pounds, reducing upwards of half a pound off the XPS 15, and the 4.7- to 4.8-pound XPS 16 is up to 0.7 pounds lighter than the XPS 17. The screens being smaller, each laptop is smaller all around. And Dell is introducing one new physical key, a dedicated Copilot button for Microsoft’s AI assistant. The new XPS laptops’ function row (Esc, F1-F12, and Delete) works with capacitive touch.

Let’s look at the display, which is bright and vibrant. The XPS 13 is available with 1080p non-touch and 3K OLED touch displays. While the XPS 14’s 14.5-inch screen and XPS 16’s 16.3-inch screen are smaller than what we got with the XPS 15 and 17, there are plenty of details if you get them with the OLED panels. The XPS 14 has a 1920 x 1200 non-touch screen and a 3.2K OLED touch screen, while the XPS 16’s panel comes with either a 1920 x 1200 non-touch screen or a 4K+ OLED touch screen.

There is more space in the laptops, meaning more space for fans and discrete graphics, which is why the XPS 14 will have an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 option. It will also include up to 64GB of RAM, up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 165H CPU, and a 4TB SSD.

Your choice of XPS laptop will depend on the power your workflow demands. The Intel Core Ultra 5 in the XPS 13 will be enough for basic usage, though you could upgrade to the Core Ultra 7 in that laptop or the XPS 14 if you need more power. The XPS 16 comes with the Core Ultra 7, while also giving the option for Core Ultra 9.
And a good move from Dell: It’s finally leaving behind 720p webcams for 1080p sensors.
