The tech industry wants us to believe that a Her moment is unfolding and we are on our way to dating digital assistants. Comedian Conner O’Malley’s new special Stand Up Solutions digs deep and comes up with some hilarious takes on the situation.
O’Malley sports a blue polo and khakis as he takes on the role of Richard Eagleton, a father and husband who’s created the first-ever AI-powered comedian, KENN (Kinetic Emotional Neural Network). Eagleton has the enthusiasm of a salesman and the mouth of a tech bro. He reminds us to not get political but O’Malley’s special is full of just that.
During the hour-long presentation, O’Malley offers enough moments when we feel that an AI evangelist is before us. “AI is free labour. We can build whole societies out of it. Another way of saying that is that it is ethical slavery. We are hacking slavery,” O’Malley reminds his audience.
After sitting through the one-hour video (NSFW), one certainly doesn’t need to worry about AI taking over the job of a standup comedian. Sure, we have the right to be scared of subjugation before an AI model but a chatbot can’t match O’Malley’s creative take on the situation.
