After upgrading my laptop to Windows 10 from Windows 7 Ultimate, the computer became very slow. So much so that I had to reinstal Windows 7. I use an HCL Me Icon laptop with an Intel i5 processor that runs at 2.30 GHz, has 4GB RAM and an Intel HD graphic card.

You must reinstal Windows 10 as Windows 7 is not safe any longer. Windows 10 comes with a lot of additional software that is supposed to enhance your experience. But if your PC does not have enough memory or you are running short of hard disk space, this can slow down your machine considerably.

You must get rid of all these extra programs from Windows. Luckily for you, there is a utility that does this. It is called Windows 10 Debloater and you can get it from https://bit.ly/36FV4tn. Once you are on the site, click on the green button called “Code”. Download the zip file from there.

Extract the contents of the zip file to the hard disk. Right-click on one of the extracted files called Windows10DebloaterGUI.ps1 and choose “Run with PowerShell”. You need to run this as an administrator for the script to work properly.

The script will remove all the programs you do not need. Windows 10 should run a lot faster now.

Reboot message

When I switch on my computer, I get a message saying, “Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key”.

This is a BIOS error. BIOS stands for basic input/output system. This is a firmware embedded on the chip on the computer’s motherboard.

When your computer starts up, BIOS is the first software that is run. It wakes up the hardware components, making sure they are up and working properly. In your comp, it is not detecting the hard drive where Windows is loaded.

Press Control+Alt+Del together on the keyboard to reboot your computer. Keep pressing either F1, F2, Del or Esc to enter the BIOS set-up. On some machines, you may have to press F10 or F12, depending on the manufacturer of your machine.

Once you enter the BIOS set-up, check the boot order. You will find this under the Boot or Startup tab. It could also be under Advanced.

Here you have to set your hard drive as the first boot sequence. Press F10 to save the changes and exit. Your comp should now start normally.

Where can I get QBasic for Windows?

QBasic or QuickBasic is a programming language developed by Microsoft for use in the MS-DOS operating system. It is an ideal programming language for beginners.

You can download this from the Microsoft Store. Here is the link for QBasic that works on Windows 10 computers: https://bit.ly/ 2MqqXiQ.

5G compatibility

I have two flagship Android phones from Samsung. I am worried they will become obsolete after 5G is launched in India. Both of them are 4G LTE enabled.

It will take a couple of years for 5G networks to stabilise and reach their full potential once it is launched. 4G is now used widely and is much more reliable than when it was first introduced. Wireless carriers will ensure that both coexist. For example, I still get an Edge (E) signal on my phone when there is no 4G or 3G available in some areas.

Chrome problem

I am not able to instal Google Chrome on my desktop computer running Windows 10. There is no response when I click on “Download Chrome”.

Check whether you can download another browser such as Firefox or Opera. If you are not able to do this, it means that either your Internet connection is not working properly or your antivirus program is blocking downloads. Disable your antivirus software and try again. It should work.
