Amazon will be the first company to support Matter Casting, a video- and audio-beaming feature built on Matter smart home standard. It will be available on the company’s Prime Video app so that you can cast content to Amazon devices, the company has announced at CES 2024.

The feature is available now for the Echo Show 15 and Amazon says support is coming soon to Fire TVs, including smart TVs from Panasonic with Fire TV built-in. Once Matter Casting comes to Amazon’s Prime Video app for Android and iOS, users can cast content to Amazon devices by tapping a new dedicated button.

Making Matter Casting interesting is its open local networking protocol, available to any app or hardware maker to implement and is not limited to specific operating systems or partnerships. Matter standard is backed by Apple and Google, besides Amazon, but the former two tech giants already have their proprietary casting technologies. Matter Casting can allow control of a television’s basic functions.

Prime Video depends on app-to-app communication, so you have all the same controls on your phone as you do on the app on your TV. When hardware makers add Matter Casting support, you’ll be able to cast Amazon content to supported apps on them.
