Level 10 after spending around 45 minutes each day for the past one month. And I still haven’t had enough of Clap Hanz Golf, which is available on Apple Arcade, an ad-free video game subscription service. It was released around the same time as Mario Golf: Super Rush but this one has scored enough eagles among its users.

Unlike most golf games, there is a fun element involved but without compromising on the golfing experience. Every swing has solid physics behind it and when you chose the point at which to let the golf club rip, the trajectory of the ball is spot on, keeping wind, rain, direction and follow-through in mind. I have been playing the game mostly on “tour” mode, which means there are several games that needed to be completed at each level before moving on. At the end of each level, a new player can be won and games get tougher.

Each of the players comes with a set of quirks, especially in way of follow through. And each reacts differently to the fate his or her shot meets. Things get tougher when it comes to birdie or par because you have draw the line across the swing meter while keeping the slop in mind. Each time it’s different, meaning you have to keep trying.

Not always do you have to play a lengthy 18-hole marathon; instead, chose to play three, six or nine holes. Levelling up means getting stronger players with a reduced margin of error.

The game is not a light download, neither are the updates but they work seamlessly on any iPhone. Even though it’s graphic intensive, there are no hiccups. Perhaps the success of the game has much to do with its developer’s background.

The Japanese creator Clap Hanz is behind Everybody’s Golf/Hot Shots Golf series, which are very successful. Plus, there are no advertisements in the Apple Arcade title. And you don’t have to make microtransactions to achieve a goal. Play it and you will certainly get hooked to the title.
