Another year and another set of Google Pixel phones are coming, besides new smartwatches and wireless buds.

Google’s Pixel 9 lineup has three phones with the usual slab form factor — Pixel 9 with a 6.3-inch display, a Pixel 9 Pro XL with a 6.8-inch screen, and a new, smaller Pixel 9 Pro option measuring 6.3 inches. All of them come with G4 Tensor chip, improved battery life and a redesigned oval-shaped camera housing.

Here’s a quick look at what you get on the different devices.

Pixel 9

The Pixel series comes with a redesigned look that has replaced the camera band with an oblong oval while the screen size is back to 6.3 inches, after dipping to 6.2 inches on the Pixel 8. The phone comes with a polished glass back with satin metal finishes on the frame and cameras.

The number of cameras remains the same, that is two on the back and one on the front while the ultrawide snapper now captures at 48MP.

The Pixel 9 is powered by Tensor G4 chip that comes in all the other phones in the lineup and the base model comes with 12GB of memory, doing away with the 8GB model. The extra RAM will help handle the many Gemini integrations coming with Android 15, besides making the device relevant for a longer period of time.

Pressing and holding the power button will overlay the assistant on whatever you’re doing on-screen. The results can fetch details from other apps, and produce contextualised recommendations based on images you take.

Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL

These are the more heavy-duty phones in terms of camera and what you can do with the device. The Pixel 9 Pro is the same size as the regular Pixel 9, both with 6.3-inch screens. But Pixel 9 Pro XL) has the same specs as the Pro model), comes with a larger, 6.8-inch display and a 5,060 mAh battery (versus the 4,700 mAh battery on Pixel 9 Pro).

With its updated aspect ratios and larger screen size, the new Pixel Fold is for entertainment lovers. With multiview on YouTube TV, you can watch up to four preselected events at once on the large inner screen for the perfect gameday experience. Google

Once again, it uses the Tensor G4 processor but the Pro devices have 16GB of RAM to execute AI tricks. The phones come with 128GB of storage or a full terabyte. The Pro models also has an additional 48 MP 5x telephoto lens on the back (besides 50MP wide and 48MP ultra-wide) and a better 42 MP selfie camera.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Good news: It will make its way to India in the coming weeks. The second foldable phone from the company is not called the Pixel Fold 2, but rather the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. There’s a big eight-inch inner screen, making it the largest on any phone out there. The outer screen is larger too, measuring 6.3 inches, up from 5.8 inches last year.

The company has managed to tackle the weight of the phone. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold measures 0.4 inches when closed, making it the thinnest foldable on the market. Of course, don’t count the camera bump! At 257g, it’s about 25 grams lighter than the Pixel Fold.

The new Pixel Watch 3 smart watches

Powered by Tensor G4 chip, it comes with 16GB of RAM. Once again, it is designed around Google’s Gemini AI features. Pressing the power button brings up the assistant, which you can use in split screen on the foldable.

The three outside cameras include a wide, ultrawide and telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and up to 20x Super Res Zoom. There’s a 10 MP camera on both the interior and on the front of the exterior screen.

AI features on the camera

There’s a new feature called Add Me in Pixel 9 Pro’s camera. The idea behind it is that a person taking a group photo doesn’t get to be in it. So Google created software that can combine multiple photos to add the person in. When Person A opens the Add Me feature the camera system scans the scene for people and creates a depth map of where everyone is. After the first photo is taken Person A swaps with Person B, who was in the group photo. Person B is instructed to line the frame with the shot Person A took and then take another photo. The software saves all these photos and stitches it together.

Text Prompting is another AI-driven feature and so is Auto Frame in Magic Editor. Google is now allowing changes via text. For example, you can select an area you like to change and then type in the alteration you would like to see.

Auto Frame can reframe a photo to make it more visually appealing, such as the rule of the thirds.

The HDR image pipeline has changed, which is responsible for the signature look of a camera. It does everything from analysing skin tones to adding sharpness and deciding how much contrast to give a photo.

Staying on with AI, there is another standout new app called Pixel Screenshots, which makes it possible to ask questions about screenshots stored on your phone. Not interesting? Consider how many times you have saved an address from a text message. The Pixel Screenshots app lets you search for those individual bits of information.

Pixel Watch 3

The Pixel Watch 3 comes in 45mm and 41mm sizes. Besides thinner bezels that offer more screen real estate, the Pixel Watch 3 has a new ultra wideband chip, a brighter display (up to 2,000 nits) and several new fitness features, like detecting whether the wearer’s pulse has stopped, allowing it to call emergency services if the wearer doesn’t respond to a prompt to check.

Pixel Buds Pro 2

The wireless earbuds are smaller, lighter and come with 11mm drivers and a new Tensor A1 chip that’s supposed to improve active noise cancellation (ANC). There is also a wing-fin design, which should help them stay in your ears during a workout, along with up to eight hours of audio playback with ANC enabled (or up to 30 hours with the case).

Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL are priced at ₹79,999, ₹109,999 and ₹124,999 respectively in India.
