Civil aviation minister K. Rammohan Naidu recently shared on X (formerly Twitter) how the DigiYatra app has transformed air travel in India since its launch in December 2022.
With over 80 lakh users and 4 crore successful journeys across 24 airports, the app uses biometric technology to simplify airport processes, making travel faster and more convenient.

“Since its inception on December 1, 2022, #DigiYatra has transformed air travel with more than 80 lakh users, 4 crore successful journeys, and operations spanning 24 airports. The initiative remains focused on delivering a seamless and contactless experience for travelers across the country,” Naidu posted on X.
If you’re not very tech-savvy, here’s a simple guide to used the DigiYatra app.

Step 1: Download the application
Go to the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS) and search for the official DigiYatra app. See the logo in the picture above and make sure you download that (the latest version of the application).
Install it by clicking on the install option.
Open the app and register using your mobile number. You will also receive an OTP for verification.

Step 2: Link your ID
Choose to link your ID using DigiLocker – another app that you can store scanned copies of official documents in – or Aadhaar number.
If you use Aadhaar, verify it through an OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
Note: Aadhaar IDs for children below 5 years of age cannot be used.

Step 3: Upload a selfie
Take a clear picture of yourself and upload it to the app.
Ensure your face is seen clearly and there are no obstructions like glasses or hats.

Step 4: Add your boarding pass
Download your boarding pass from the airline’s website or email.
Upload your boarding pass to the app.
Share it with the departure airport.
Make sure the name on your Aadhaar, flight ticket, and boarding pass is the same.
Scan your boarding pass – by holding your phone down on the scanning surface – and look into the camera for facial recognition.
Once verified, the gate will open automatically.

Security check:
Drop off your luggage at the airline check-in counter or proceed to the DigiYatra security gate.
Use facial recognition at the e-gate to enter.

Boarding gate:
Use DigiYatra again for seamless entry at the boarding gate (this option is however, available at limited gates so ensure to check before getting into it).
