Orissa High Court lawyers on Wednesday intensified their agitation, demanding arrest of all the police personnel involved in the assault on an advocate by burning effigy of Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik.

The lawyers shouted slogans against the Odisha government and took out a procession of Naveen’s effigy.

Orissa High Court Bar Association had warned the government to take a decision on their demand by 12 noon on Tuesday or else face burning of effigies of the chief minister.

Two cases has been registered at Lalbag police station for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty, wrongful confinement in connection with assault on a police personnel and a civilian during the scuffle between pro-strike and anti-strike lawyers on Monday.

Deputy commissioner of police Akhileswar Singh said constable Satya Narayan Chualsingh was assaulted and wrongfully restrained by some of the advocates.

Besides, one civilian, Santosh Nimain, was also assaulted by some of the advocates.

“In compliance to the high court order regarding , access of judges, staff and litigants, 25 platoons of police and officers were deployed from Monday morning,” he said.

Members of the Sambalpur District Bar Association on Wednesday staged a black flag demonstration before food and civil supplies minister Surya Narayan Patro during his visit to Burla in support of their demand for the establishment of a high court bench.

District bar association president Bijendriya Pradhan demanded to depute a high-power delegation to Delhi to discuss the modalities of the formation of the bench.

The bar association had, in a resolution, decided to oppose the visit of any ministers of Centre and state to the district on the bench issue.

Patro told reporters that he would convey their demands to the chief minister.
