Tribute to educationist
Students of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, observed Mahatma Hansraj Day last week to mark the contributions of the great icon of the DAV movement. Teachers and students of the school took part in several activities dedicated to the teachings and ideals of the renowned educationist. They conducted a mass prayer and havan to observe the occasion on the school premises.
Celebrations
Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School in Bhubaneswar celebrated the advent of Odia New Year amid fanfare. Students and teachers enjoyed the traditional Odia beverage pana on the occasion that the students prepared, followed by the teachers describing the significance of the day to them. The school also organised a gathering and invited teachers and students from other schools in the city as well.
Textbook centres
The school and mass education department has decided to set up 64 book selling centres across the state to sell textbooks for classes I to VIII in aided schools in an attempt to address the issue of shortage. The books have been made available from April 20. Each parent or student can buy one set of books, which will be made available at 50 per cent discounted rate, official sources said.
Cricket tourney
St. Gregorious School clinched the 3rd Harmohan Praharaj Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament with a 29-run win over Deepika English Medium School in Rourkela recently. Hosted by Rourkela Gymkhana, a premier cricket club in Odisha, the tournament was organised in memory of Odisha's former Duleep Trophy captain. Sanat Mahato from the winning team walked away with the player of the final and best bowler award, while Sameer Senapati from the opposition was adjudged best batsman.
Welcome party
DAV Public School, Pokhariput, on April 17, gave a grand welcome to newcomers to lower kindergarten in presence of the principal and teachers of the section. The children cut cakes and celebrated their first day at school. The principal interacted with the children and their parents.
Tech test
The state government hosted the Information and Communications Technology Championship test in school, block and district-level among students of class IX recently. After completion of school and block-level tests, the winners were invited to take part in the district-level test. Two winners were selected from each block and invited to take part in the district-level test. One winner from each district will take part in the state-level championship programme.
Braille library
Amway India in partnership with Turnstone Global has set up a Braille library at the Bhima Bhoi School for the Blind in Bhubaneswar. The library will offer Braille versions of a variety of books, journals and CDs ranging from academic, fiction, self-help and general knowledge for the benefit of visually-impaired students, whose access to books is otherwise limited. The library is also equipped with computers that will enable the students to access more than 30 CDs.
