Bhubaneswar, Aug. 22: The state crime branch today interrogated 20-year-old Satyam Sekhar Raula, the adopted son of Santosh Raula alias Sarathi baba, for the second consecutive day.

The crime branch wants to find out the source of money that sustained his lavish lifestyle.

Sources said Satyam, who had earlier resisted attempts to quiz him, now began co-operating with the crime branch sleuths. The crime branch officials also tried to find details of the fixed deposits made in the name of Satyam. So far, the cops have seized three accounts that were in Satyam's name with a deposit of around Rs 27 lakh.

Satyam was looking after the affairs of the Srimad Sarathi Productions, an entertainment company. After knowing about his association with it, the crime branch started to delve deep into his business dealings. Sources said it had already interrogated the producer of the Odia movie Bachelor, which the Srimad Sarathi Productions is believed to have financed. The firm also manufactures audio cassettes. The crime branch also found a double-storey building in Bhubaneswar in Satyam's name.

A day before the crime branch arrested Sarathi baba on August 8, Satyam fled the state. On August 19, the crime branch sleuths arrested him from Mumbai after intercepting and tracking down his phone number and ATM card.

Crime branch sources said it would also interrogate those, who had donated or sold their land to the Satyam Charitable Trust that was being run by Sarathi baba.

In another development, a woman today recorded her statement before the first class judicial magistrate court in Kendrapara. Mamata Swain, who hails from Kendrapara district, alleged that she and her mother had gone to the baba's ashram at Barimula in 2005. They had also given him cash worth Rs 1.5 lakh and some gold ornaments hoping that the baba would arrange a suitable groom for Mamata.

However, the self-styled spiritual leader failed to find a groom for Mamata. Moreover, she and her mother were subjected to physical torture during their stay in the ashram. She alleged that in 2014, Sarathi had even made an attempt to molest her.

After this incident, Mamata and her mother left the ashram. However, they had kept quiet regarding the baba's conduct, fearing threat to their lives.
