Arunachal Pradesh governor Brig. (retd) B.D. Mishra on Tuesday called upon students not to run after only government jobs, but try to become entrepreneurs by exploring more avenues through start-up schemes.

Addressing the 37th foundation day event of the Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), he said: “The students must be disciplined and have the urge to improve themselves. They must study with dedication and take part in extracurricular activities. They have also social responsibilities.”

Mishra asked the teachers to take initiate steps to improve quality of teaching. “Faculty members must be regular, wise and empathetic in their approach,” he said.

“The university management must be fair, equitable, endeavouring, friendly and receptive. The management must be far-sighted and have long-time approach.”

Mishra presented awards to exceptional achievers.

Former RGU vice-chancellor Tamo Mibang delivered the foundation day lecture. Incumbent vice-chancellor Saket Kushwaha, pro-vice chancellor Amitava Mitra and registrar Tomo Riba also spoke on the occasion.

Among prominent guests were Amy Dawin, ballet artiste and art choreographer from the US, gaonburahs (village heads), deans and heads of departments of the university.

Founded on February 4, 1984, the RGU is the oldest and the only central university of Arunachal Pradesh.
