Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said certain political parties in Bengal, Tripura and Kerala, who could not stand each other, were posing for photographs in New Delhi to form a mahamilavat (grand adulteration).

“These people have no answers to any questions. They only hurl bigger abuses at Modi in response to each unanswered question. They are dreaming to form a majboor sarkar (helpless government) at the Centre to ensure nepotism, corruption and malpractice. But the people will thwart them in the Lok Sabha polls,” the Prime Minister said at a rally in Agartala.

He attacked the Congress and the CPM, without naming the parties, and said those who were in power for 55 years at the Centre and in Tripura for over two decades have come together to form an alliance of adulteration.

He appealed to the people to cast their mandate in favour of a majboot sarkar (strong government) and help in building “new India”.

The rally was held amid boycott by three CPM MPs and a few regional parties over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which is pending approval in the Rajya Sabha. However, Modi did not mention the bill once during his 28-minute speech at Swami Vivekananda Maidan.

He also claimed his government had left no stone unturned to develop Tripura. “Sufficient funds were provided to Tripura during the last four-and-a-half years. However, those were not utilised properly owing to the attitude of the previous government,” he said.

He attacked the earlier Left Front government over its failure to introduce procurement of paddy at minimum support price and said despite tall speeches on farmers’ and workers’ welfare, it did no work. “They did not care about pay commission recommendations or welfare of workers. These people should be identified and unmasked,” Modi said.

He congratulated the people of Tripura for electing the BJP-IPFT government. He claimed the present government was taking development to greater heights and congratulated chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, deputy chief minister Jishnu Devvarma and the state cabinet for a “job well done”.

He said the central government had lived up to its promise of delivering the Hira (highways, i-ways, roadways and airways) model of development. He referred to initiatives like the Agartala-Sabroom National Highway, a second terminal at Agartala airport, new train services like Humsafar and Deoghar Express in the state as part of the development model. “These initiatives will pave way for newer employment avenues and investment potential will increase significantly in Tripura,” he said.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated a new complex of the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) at Narsingarh in West district and a 23.5-km stretch of the railway line from Garjee in Gomati district to Belonia in South district via remote control. He left for New Delhi in a special aircraft from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in the evening.
