Prince Prithviraj Narayan Dev Mech, 22, a mediator of the Bodo Accord, who recently joined the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), on Friday claimed that the party would form the government in the Bodoland Territorial Council after the April polls, ousting the three-time ruling Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).
“There seems to be a clear mandate of the people towards the UPPL. It will form the government under the leadership of Pramod Boro,” he told The Telegraph on Friday.
He claimed that NDFB (Saoraigwra) general secretary B.R. Ferrenga and the second mediator of the Bodo pact, Thulunga Basumatary, might join the UPPL too. He said there were reports in the media that B. Saoraigwra would join the BPF and appealed to him to join the UPPL for “true implementation” of the Bodo pact. Mech, the 19th descendant of Boro King Chikra Mech, and Basumatary had acted as the catalyst between the NDFB’s Saoraigwra faction and the Centre and persuaded members of the outfit to join the Bodo pact.
