A police team led by Dibrugarh superintendent of police Sreejith T. on Friday arrested two youths from a hub near Itabhata Lower Primary School in Tinsukia district. They were involved in kidnapping a teenaged boy on Thursday night from his home at Digboimukh Bamun gaon in Dibrugarh district.
The kidnappers have been identified as Kirshna Das, 23, son of Nakul Das, resident of Shantipara under Namrup police station in Dibrugarh district and Raju Das, 22, son of Dilip Das, resident of Digboimukh Bamun gaon under Duliajan police station.
Sources said Krishna and Raju on Thursday went to Ishan Das’s house, dragged out his teenaged son Akhyajit and sped away on a bike. Ishan and Raju are neighbours.
The sources said the family got a call around 9pm on Thursday asking for Rs 20 lakh as ransom.
Ishan lodged an FIR the same night at Duliajan police station.
The additional superintendent of police, Dibrugarh, Padmanath Baruah, said around 9am on Friday they rescued the boy and arrested the two.
He said both are being interrogated.
Besides Baruah, who led the operation, the team comprised deputy superintendent of police, Namrup, Kula Pradip Bhattacharya, ASP Partha Pratim Das, (probation) and officer-in-charge of Duliajan police station, Rupjyoti Dutta.
