Two men were injured in a leopard attack on Wednesday afternoon in Balimora tea estate under Naharkatia police station in Dibrugarh district. They have been identified as Jiten Gowala, resident of Balimora tea estate and Kula Gogoi, resident of a village nearby the tea garden. Sources said a leopard attacked Gowala and Gogoi when the duo along with another local resident surrounded the area after they spotted the animal,which was searching for food in Balimora and Satya Narayan tea estates. The forest personnel with support of police have already set up a cage in the tea garden to capture the animal.The two injured have been sent to Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, for treatment.

Arson-hit get aid

The state cabinet on Thursday approved Rs 3 lakh assistance to families whose houses were completely gutted in the arson at Chassad village in Manipur’s Kamjong district on Monday. An amount of Rs 1 lakh will be given to families whose houses were partially damaged.

Remanded

Police seized 17kg of ganja from the possession of Bappan Pal on Thursday. The person was arrested from a bus at Nilbagan. The bus was bound to Lanka from Dimapur.

Deadline

The Kamrup (metro) DTO has asked all defaulting road tax and permit/fitness fees to be deposited by March 31.
