Cachar police conducted a search operation at a hotel owned by one Md Sarif Uddin at Manipuri Market under Dholai police station and apprehended Sarif Uddin and Akmadul Haque Laskar with approximate 12.36 grams of suspected heroin. The police booked the duo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
Traffic accidents
At least 137 people have been killed and many injured in road accidents in Aizawl district in five years from 2015 to January 2020, traffic officials said on Sunday. At least 158 mishaps occur-red during this period, killing 137 and injuring 153 others. Police also arrested 1,502 people for violation of traffic rules between January and February and the fine collected was over Rs 6.55 lakh.
Scribe demise
Assam’s veteran scribe Trailokya Bhagawati breathed his last at his residence here on Sunday. He was 80. Bhagawati took active part in Guwahati Press Club. He had retired as the assistant editor of The Assam Tribune. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
