Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday claimed his government was expecting to receive Rs 4,802.88 crore out of the Rs 20-lakh crore fiscal stimulus package announced by the Centre.

The amount will cover areas like industry, entrepreneurs, farmers and rural economy, support to urban poor, upgrade of industrial infrastructure, increased MGNREGA allocation and increase in borrowing limit.

Deb said nearly Rs 2,000 crore would be allocated for agriculture and allied sectors. He appealed to the 500 MSME units of Tripura to take benefits of the package, as Rs 10 crore was expected for the sector.

Deb said of the Rs 13,343 crore allocated for preventing animal diseases in the package, his government hopes to receive Rs 7.35 crore.

“We are expecting to receive a major amount from the package in credit support to new Kisan Credit Card-holders, liquidity support to farmers, collateral-free loans to businesses, including MSMEs, and payments to Discoms. The Centre has also increased the borrowing limit. We are also expecting to receive a major amount for upgrade of industrial infrastructure, like the proposed special economic zone at Sabroom,” Deb said.

He said the Centre’s decision to amend labour laws and increase daily working hours from eight to 12 hours was necessary to revive the economy damaged during the lockdown. He said workers would be more protected with security and health check-ups.

On tax revenue collection, Deb said the amount of tax collection had also decreased in the last three months.
