Justice Satyagopal Chattopadhyay was sworn in as the judge of Tripura High Court. The oath of office and secrecy to the court’s fourth judge was administered by Chief Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi in the presence of Justices Subhasish Talapatra and Arindam Lodh. With the appointment of Chattopadhyay, the High Court of Tripura will have a full strength of four benches. The bench fell vacant after the retirement of Justice S.C. Das in 2017. Chattopadhyay’s appointment was cleared by the Supreme Court collegium late last month.
RI for raping minor
A special court in Champhai has sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor, a court official said on Friday. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 against the convict. Zohmingthanga was arrested in 2017 following a complaint lodged by the Champhai Child Welfare Committee at Khazawl police station. The medical report of the victims also confirmed rape, police said.
3 held for poppy cultivation
The South Salmara Mankachar police on Friday arrested three persons, Joynal, Anarul and Monowar, for cultivating poppy at Paikargandhi under Sukchar police station of district, said the deputy superintendent of police, South Salmara Mankacahar, Ashif Ahmed. The three have been sent to judicial custody.
