A Trinamul Congress student activist on Friday lodged a police complaint against few ABVP members of MBB College in Agartala for allegedly assaulting her and confining her to a room.

Senior Trinamul leaders Shantanu Sen, Kunal Ghosh and Subal Bhowmik staged a dharna in front of Agartala women’s police station in the evening to protest against the alleged assault on Solanki Sengupta, a third-year BA student. “We have also demanded that her statement be recorded by a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC on Saturday,” Subal Bhowmik, who joined Trinamul after leaving the Congress last month, told The Telegraph.

Bhowmik said Solanki was campaigning in the college to observe the foundation day of the Trinamul Chhatra Parishad on Saturday when she was allegedly assaulted and confined.

“We will observe the foundation day in all districts and also take out a rally in Agartala on various burning issues,” Bhowmik said.

Sources said a scuffle, too, had broken out between the activists of both the organisations, fanning tension and leading to the intervention of the police to control the situation.

Asked about the alleged assault on Solanki, BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said Trinamul should not involve students in its politics. “Aged Trinamul leaders had gone to the college without taking permission and created disturbance in the college. This should not be repeated.”
