Three more persons from Mizoram have tested positive for Covid-19 in Mumbai, state health minister R. Lalthangliana said on Saturday.

At least four persons, including two women from Mizoram, who are camping at Mizoram House in Mumbai, have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus.

Lalthangliana said samples of 20 people, who were living in the same dormitory at Mizoram House with a 22-year-old woman, who tested positive on April 13, were collected by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation recently. Of these 20 people, three persons, two cancer patients and an attendant, tested positive on Saturday, he said.

The health minister said he had contacted his Maharashtra counterpart Rajesh Ankushrao Tope for immediate medical care for the Covid patients.

The newly infected patients were rushed to Seven Hills Hospital, a Covid-19 designated treatment centre in Mumbai, on Saturday, he said.

The samples of all the inmates of the Mizoram House in Mumbai will be collected for tests, he added.

The health minister said the source of infection was yet to be ascertained and cautioned people against using any offensive word on social media that could hurt sentiments.

He urged the people not to expose and reveal the identities of the patients.

The 22-year-old woman, also a cancer patient undergoing treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, had tested positive on Monday. She is now undergoing treatment at St George’s Hospital for Covid-19 and is stable, the minister said.

He said that her husband, who was lodged at a church-run-hostel in Mumbai, had tested negative.

Mizoram has reported only one case since March 25 when a 50-year-old pastor, who had travel history to Amsterdam, tested positive. He is undergoing treatment at the state’s lone medical college, Zoram Medical College (ZMC), and is stable, state health department officials said.

Meanwhile, chief minister Zoramthanga thanked Karnataka and Telangana governments for providing relief to Mizos stranded in those states.

“Big round of applause to the government of Telangana for being one shining quantum of hope for the stranded Mizos. I truly thank Shri Chandrashekar Rao ji for being an ambient tower of relief for the needy in these trying times,” he tweeted.

Zoramthanga also took to twitter to thank the Karnataka government for helping stranded Mizos.

“Thanking you from the bottom of my heart Shri @GovindKarjol ji, Hon’ble Dy CM, Karnataka for your kind gesture in bringing relief aids to stranded Mizos in Bangalore. Mizoram will forever be grateful for your kind act of generosity,” he tweeted.

More than 2,300 people from Mizoram are stranded across the country because of the nationwide lockdown imposed to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus.
