Although the airport had more than 20 flight schedules, due to various reasons a limited number of flights are being operated as of now.

On Monday, when the commercial domestic flights resumed in the country for the first time in two months, eight flights landed in Guwahati with 686 passengers.

On Tuesday, there were three flights from Delhi, two from Bangalore, two from Imphal, one from Silchar, one from Chennai and one from Mumbai.

The first flight from Delhi on Tuesday brought 173 passengers.

Persons arriving at the airport were screened at a private hotel and after that they were sent to institutional quarantine as per norms. However, pregnant women, children below 10 and persons above 75 had the option of being home quarantined.

The regional executive director, Airports Authority of India (AAI), Sanjeev Jindal, said all essential and mandatory arrangements in the wake of Covid pandemic were in place.

He added that wearing masks was a must for all entrants at the airport.

“Sanitisers and disinfectants for luggage are the new normal that Guwahati airport saw today. Almost contactless entry of passengers was ensured on the first day of air travel during corona pandemic,” Jindal said.

The director-general of police, Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, said all arrangements were being monitored by police and all measures to tackle any unwanted events were being taken. “In order to control the crowd, separate entrances and exits have been set up for the people based on the locations they will be heading to. Transportation has also been arranged for those who do not have their own vehicles.”
