The Assam government on Saturday directed schools to provide students with course material and give them homework through WhatsApp to prevent learning gaps, and subsequent dropouts, during the closure of educational institutes for coronavirus, officials said. The education department asked the schools to create WhatsApp groups with guardians, an official said.

Ban on gatherings

The Dhubri district administration, in an order on Saturday, prohibited public gathering in religious institutes till April 5. No person/ unauthorised roadside vendor shall be allowed to sell fish in the open or footpath throughout the district, it added.

Youth in hospital

A 24-year-old youth, who returned from London on Friday, got himself admitted to Kushal Konwar civil hospital here on Saturday for testing Covid-19. The Dergaon youth has been staying in London for the last two years for studies.

Monitoring team

A five-member district-level media monitoring committee was formed on Friday to monitor all news appearing in print and electronic media and social media on coronavirus.

Complaint lodged

Haran Dey, chairman of a news agency, filed a complaint with Cachar police against a Facebook user for uploading an objectionable picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Market shut

Chowk Bazar (Boro Bazar) in the district was shut down on Saturday following a remour that a man, who returned from outside the state on Friday, was suffering from cold and cough. A medical team rushed to his residence and took him to a hospital for virus test, which was negative.
