The Assam government will set up coaching centres for tea tribe students.
Attending Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das memorial awards function here in Guwahati, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, “The Assam government is planning to set up academic centres to impart coaching to students hailing from the tea community. The objective is to prepare the students of tea tribe community for appearing in medical and engineering courses and also for providing coaching for students aspiring for civil services exams.”
“The government has already started working towards setting up coaching centres in the state. The government has been taking other steps for educational development of the students of the tea garden areas. I urged the tea tribe youths to take advantage of these initiatives for achieving development,” he added.
In the programme, Sonowal also distributed financial aids to beneficiaries under the Gratuity Act along with handing over cheques to the students for achieving success in the cultural field.
Union minister of state for food processing Rameswar Teli and Tezpur MP Pallab Lochan Das also spoke at the programme, which was attended by several other dignitaries.
“Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das played a pivotal role in implementing a historic act which ensured socio-economic development of the tea community in the state. He had dedicated his entire life to uplift the less privileged and urged the young students to follow the ideals of great personalities to establish Assam at the world stage,” Sonowal said.
“Assam’s tea has a distinct reputation in the world and if we are to sustain its legacy and dominance in the global market, then we must adopt latest scientific technologies in the field,” he added.
