The “first ever” Night Marathon of India is all set to be hosted by the Asmakam Foundation here on Sunday.
It will be flagged off from the Veterinary College Field at Khanapara at 5.30pm by Bollywood star Yami Gautam along with Arjuna awardee Bhogeswar Baruah and veteran footballer Bhaichung Bhutia.
Athletes, including veteran and well-known marathoners from India and abroad, will participate in the event.
The event has been categorised into a 42.2km run, a half marathon of 21.1km, a 10km run and a 5km run (under 18). There will also be an easy 3km walkathon.
There will be attractive cash prizes for all categories except the walkathon.
During the marathons, the route from Khanapara to ABC Point will be shut and movement of traffic will be diverted.
All traffic towards the city will be diverted through Beltola and for ease of movement within the city, the service lane in Ganeshguri will be opened for a short while.
The deputy commissioner of police, traffic, Ranjan Bhuyan, said all measures would be taken to ensure smooth running of the entire programme.
The traffic branch appealed to citizens to cooperate with the changes in the route plans.
The organisers said the event would become a “permanent fixture in the sports calendar” of Guwahati and would be held on the last Sunday of February or the first Sunday of March every year.
