Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday urged youths to engage in self-employment activities without waiting for government jobs.
He said this while inaugurating the building of the District Industries and Commerce Centre (DICC) in Dibrugarh.
Highlighting the state government’s push for facilitating ease of doing business, Sonowal urged Dibrugarh DICC officials to make this new building, which was constructed for a total amount of Rs 3.83 crore, act as a bridge between the banking institutions and aspiring entrepreneurs so that they can set up their businesses without any difficulty.
Sonowal underlined the importance of the youth becoming job creators instead of seekers. He reiterated the positive transformation in the state’s industrial sector being brought by initiatives like landmark public sector investment of Rs 40,000 crore in the oil and gas sector of the state, augmentation of Numaligarh Refinery’s production capacity from three million tonnes per annum to nine MTPA, setting up crude oil pipeline from Odisha’s Paradeep and connecting the gas grid from Barauni and he urged the state’s young generation to empower themselves by acquiring necessary skills to take advantage of this positive scenario.
Saying that big national and international corporate players are showing interest in setting up their businesses in the state because of the prevailing peaceful environment here, he called on aspiring entrepreneurs to equip themselves with knowledge and skills.
“The youth must develop a global vision to excel in today’s competitive environment and make themselves suitable for finding employment opportunities in all parts of the country and the world,” Sonowal said.
He also directed Dibrugarh DICC officials to make the new building more attractive for the young generation so that they come forward to set up small and medium scale industries which would generate employment opportunities.
MP Rameswar Teli, MLAs Prasanta Phukan, Rituparna Baruah, Chakradhar Gogoi, deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha and top officials of Dibrugarh DICC were also present.
