Candidates appearing for the state-wide recruitment examinations on Sunday for Grade-III posts in Assam have been advised to report at least one-and-a-half hours before its start for “thorough frisking” and also to turn up in “half-sleeve attires” and slippers instead of shoes to expedite the frisking process.

These are part of the revised instructions issued to the candidates by the State Level Recruitment Commission for Class-II posts to “prevent” a repeat of a “situation” faced by a female student from Nalbari in the first round of examination held on September 15.

The female candidate had taken to social media to share how a woman constable allegedly “searched her private parts before she entered the examination hall” to sit for the first phase of the exam, prompting chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to advise the organisers of the exam to “develop a proper SOP” on frisking.

The commission said the state home and political department has issued a standard operating procedure for frisking candidates before entering the centres. “For frisking of female candidates, there will be separate enclosures. One anganwadi worker/anganwadi helper/ASHA worker will be present near the frisking area. In case of improper frisking, the candidate should immediately report to the centre in-charge,” it said.
