The disciplinary action committee of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Thursday issued showcause notices to its Nagaland Rajya Sabha MP K.G. Kenye and Manipur Lok Sabha MP Lorho S. Pfoze for voting in favour of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Parliament despite the resolution adopted by the party to oppose the bill.

The two MPs have been asked to show cause why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them within seven days from the date of issue of this notice — on or before December 26.

The notice says the committee held a meeting on Thursday to deliberate on the action of the two MPs in Parliament.

It said the party, at its core committee meeting on January 30 and central executive council meeting on January 31 this year had resolved to oppose the bill, which was reiterated in its consultative meeting on March 30.

The notice to Kenye, who also holds the post of NPF secretary general, said he was expected to act/vote in consonance with the party’s resolutions but had voted in favour of CAB in Rajya Sabha on December 12 in total defiance of the party’s resolutions.

The notice to Pfoze, who is a member of NPF’s central executive council and was elected as Lok Sabha MP from Outer Manipur parliamentary seat on NPF ticket, also said he had voted in favour of CAB in Lok Sabha on December 11 in total defiance of the party’s resolutions.

Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha MP Tokheho Yepthomi from the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, an ally of the BJP, also voted for CAB.
