Murdered SBI official Junu Sarma’s husband on Wednesday said she did not have enmity with anyone and ruled out her personal driver’s involvement in the killing.
The 56-year-old service manager of SBI Dadara branch in Kamrup district was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants at Agyathuri in Kamrup district on Tuesday evening while returning home from office at Nizarapar in Chandmari here, a distance of 17km.
“As we were from the same profession and same organisation, we used to discuss about our duties after returning from our respective offices. She never mentioned any incident that could have led to her killing,” said Pradip Kumar Sarma, husband of Junu and a deputy manager in the SBI’s local head-office in Dispur.
He also said he did not think Junu’s driver, Pranab Kalita, was involved in the incident. “We have known him for long. He lives just on the other side of the road in front of our house. I do not doubt him. But police are questioning him. They are doing their duty,” he added. The driver had told the police that Junu was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants.
Junu’s body was cremated at Navagraha crematorium on Wednesday afternoon after an autopsy.
The cremation was attended by family members and SBI employees who wore black badges in protest the killing.
The Sarmas’ relatives said Junu was a soft-spoken woman and was never harsh on anyone.
