The Prabajan Virodhi Manch on Saturday said the mass energy generated by anti-Citizenship Amendment Act movement should be translated towards protecting the state’s indigenous people.

“People have to set agenda or rules to the leaders to yield results of the protests,” said Manch convener Upamanyu Hazarika.

Assam MLAs should enact a legislation in the Assembly to reserve resources for the indigenous population.

“All northeastern states but Assam have legal regimes that reserve resources for indigenous people. A similar legislation in Assam for those who were citizens in 1951 or prior and their progeny will take the state out of the Act’s ambit,” he said.

“Every indigenous person and organisation should take up their issues with their elected representatives.”
