In a major breakthrough in SBI ATM loot, a team of Cachar police, led by deputy superintendent of police, Hailakandi, Faiz Ahmed Barbhuiya, conducted a raid in Loknathpur Part I village under Dholai police station of Cachar district on Thursday and apprehended prime accused Altaf Hussain Laskar, alias Reshim.

He was found hiding in an earthen bunker.

The police recovered Rs 6 lakh in cash, two mobile handsets, a few sharp weapons, an ammunition of 5.56 bore rifle and some jewellery.

Nearly Rs 84 lakh was looted from three SBI ATMs in Hailakandi on Friday following which police registered cases nos.228/2020, 229/2020 and 230/2020, all u/s 457/380 IPC involving burglary and launched a vigorous operation to track the miscreants. Three other accused were arrested during a raid on Thursday.
