Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday said regular work in industrial and agriculture sectors in Assam had resumed according to the Centre’s guidelines to boost the economy of the state.

Sonowal, who visited the Covid-19 zonal screening centre at Barsha resort in Kakadunga, Jorhat, took stock of the situation here on Thursday.

“We have started work in all big and small industries, tea gardens and agriculture sector in the state. We are doing these by adopting the Centre’s guidelines on Covid-19. We will have to fight against coronavirus and simultaneously work for the improvement of our economy by doing hard work in various fields. I believe the people of Assam will succeed in defeating coronavirus and develop our economy,” he added.

“At this crucial time we should build our mental strength to fight against the virus. We should have confidence in our ability to deal with these challenges. It is true that the number of affected people is rising day by day but a substantial number of patients have been cured and they returned home. We have a well-equipped health service with dedicated workers. So, we should not panic and rather build ourselves to fight against it.”

Sonowal, along with MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MLA Bimal Bora also said, “People stranded outside the state have returned to Assam and our health department has taken up required measures for their quarantine through five zonal screening centres. We have also formed committees in the Assembly, block and panchyat levels to quarantine the patients.”

Sonowal also visited his constituency Majuli and inaugurated the construction of a “shelter-cum-community shed with toilet blocks” in the Ahatguri area.
