The Samahar School of Drama will offer a one-year diploma course in theatre from next month.

The course will teach various facets of theatre, including acting, recitation, make-up, set design, script writing, music, dance, lights and direction.

As part of the course, the students will get an opportunity to prepare and perform two stage productions, two street shows and one short film produced by Samahar Natya Gosthee, it said.

“The SSD has brought an elite faculty of national repute. Educationist, filmmaker and eminent theatre personality Sitanath Lahkar will be the course director. Guest faculty includes National Award-winning singer and music director Tarali Sarma, theatre personalities and National School of Drama graduates like Jyoti Narayan Nath and Papari Medhi. Popular actors Rupam Chetia and NSDian Kamal Lochan will also be part of the faculty,” a Natya Gosthee member said.

“Unesco’s International Dance Council member and Bharatanatyam exponent Smita Lahkar will also take special classes. More experts will be invited as resource persons to the school from across the country, including from NSD and the film industry,” he added.

The admission for the new batch will be held on January 4 and 5 at the Natya Gosthee office here. The total number of seats is 20. Interested candidates should be 16 years and above. The selected students will get a number of free theatre books.
