The BSF has seized contraband valued at Rs 7 lakh from Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
A BSF release on Friday said, “On the intervening night of December 19 and 20, the BSF, in two operations against narcotics smuggling, seized 1,100 Yaba tablets valued at Rs 5.5 lakh.”
“Acting on specific intelligence inputs, BSF troops deployed at Chanderpur and Dipak border outposts saw some suspicious miscreants approaching the India-Bangladesh border fence. On being challenged by the BSF troops, the smugglers fled from the spot, taking advantage of darkness and thick vegetation. During a search of the area, BSF troops recovered 1,100 Yaba tablets, which were handed over to Tripura police,” the release said.
The same night, the BSF also seized other miscellaneous contraband valued at Rs 1.4 lakh. On Friday afternoon, Tripura police destroyed contraband items valued at Rs 21 lakh at Budhong Nagar Industrial Areas here.
Deputy inspector-general of police (DIG) Gaurav Chakraborty told reporters, “After obtaining a court order we have disposed 11,972 bottles of Phensedyl and 3,172 Escuf contraband. We had seized these drugs on October 10 this year from a godown near Badharghat here.”
