Robbers barged into Assam Gramin Vikash Bank at Jugijaan in Hojai district on Tuesday. They could not break the locker but broke the locks of almirahs. Later in the day, locals and bank staff informed police. Investigation is on. The branch did not have any CCTV camera.

No funds crunch

The Arunachal Pradesh government on Wednesday clarified it was not facing a financial crunch and no ongoing scheme had been scrapped or dropped. It said allocation was reduced for some schemes owing to a reduction in the state’s share of central taxes.

Drive against drugs

A drive against illicit drugs was launched by police in the Daboka College Road area on Wednesday. They seized around 14,400 simplex C+ tablets from Iqbal pharmacy and arrested three persons. One person is still absconding. Investigation is under way.

NSCN-IM plea

The NSCN (Isak-Muivah) has blamed the Kukis for allegedly burning down Chassad village in Ukhrul district of Manipur on Monday in an ethnic clash between them and the Tangkhuls of adjoining Sampui and Kamjong villages. The outfit alleged that the Kukis were the first to provoke and go for an offensive by burning down jhum cultivation fields of the other village. It appealed to all to exercise restraint to avoid similar unrest in the future.

The 44th annual conference of Assam Pradesh Manipuri Association, Hojai, which was scheduled for March 28 and 29, has been postponed because of coronavirus outbreak.

The Dhubri Rural Science Society has been upgraded to Gold Category Club for the next one year by Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous organisation under the department of science and technology.

Demise

Anil Bora, a social worker, died on Tuesday because of prolong illness. He was a resident of Ganakpukhuri Dergaon. He was 60.
