Ripun Bora allots Rs 1cr MP funds

The ministry of statistics and programme implementation has permitted use of MPLADS funds for medical test

Assam Rajya Sab-ha MP and PCC president Ripun Bora on Sunday said he had allotted Rs 1 crore from his MPLADS (Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) funds for purchase of ventilators and medical equipment or infrastructure of temporary hospital to combat coronavirus.

Bora said he had also donated his one month’s salary of Rs 1 lakh and his wife and former MLA Monika Bora’s monthly pension of Rs 45,000 to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for Covid-19.

He sent a letter to the Sonitpur deputy commissioner, urging him to release the MPLADS funds to the state government for improving medical facilities to fight the disease.

“The funds may be utilised for buying ventilators and other equipment for temporary hospitals as the Assam government may deem fit and proper in connection with the fight against coronavirus,” Bora said. Earlier, Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi contributed Rs 1 crore from his MPLADS funds to the Nagaon deputy commissioner.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita contributed Rs 1 crore for the construction of a hospital to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

Barpeta MP Abdul Khaleque has donated Rs 50 lakh for corona prevention measure from his MPLADS funds.

The ministry of statistics and programme implementation has permitted use of MPLADS funds for medical test, screening and other facilities required to fight Covid-19.

The Royal Group, a real estate developer who also runs the Royal Global University and Royal Global School in Guwahati, donated Rs 1 crore.
